Wrecker or Builder?

Edgar A. Guest

“I watched them tearing a building down,
A gang of men in a busy town.
With a ho-heave-ho and a lusty yell,
They swung a beam, and the side wall fell.
I asked the foreman: "Are these skilled--
And the men you'd hire if you had to build?"
He gave me a laugh and said: "No, indeed!
Just common labor is all I need.
I can wreck in a day or two
What builders have taken a year to do."
And I thought to myself as I went my way,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with care
Measuring life by a rule and square?
Am I shaping my deeds to a well made Plan,
Patiently doing the best I can?
Or am I a wrecker, who walks the town
Content with the labor of tearing down?”

Fire Recovery Project

This past week I accompanied six others from Community United Methodist Church on a Volunteers in Mission project at Omak, WA. The area was hard hit by wild fires in 2014 and the recovery project is still going on.
On the first day we built a four strand barbed
wire steel post fence. The old one was made
of wood timbers that were probably due for
replacement when the fire hit.

On the second day we sanded two decks on this house. The
previous house was totally destroyed by the fire. This property
owner also lost a lot of equipment in the fire.
On day three and four we put a new deck
on this cabin.

I left the project at the end of day four to attend the pinning
ceremony for Master Chief Jason Rubentsein.

Winter Migration

We migrated to warmer and dryer climes in late January and early February. We are Rainbirds, not Snowbirds!

I collected many pesos for this guy to dive in

First stop, Los Cabos

I love this California Girl
Arizona Room in California. I like the outdoor television.
There are two televisions inside as well.

Bumped into Terry O'Brian at Hidden Sands RV Resort in
Desert Hot Springs, CA., fellow pickelball player from
Port Ludlow, WA. Terry was the best pickelball player
in Desert Hot Springs, until I showed up.
