Redbox

One of my main sources for entertainment while in EP has been Redbox. There are two boxes in town that I know of; one at Walmart and one at H-E-B. There is a McDonalds here so I suppose they have one also. The good thing is that movie rentals are only $1.25 and when I rent a bad one, like Nebraska, I don't feel too bad.

Beatles

We attended the Arts Council of Eagle Pass "Tribute to the Beatles" tonight. This is probably as good as it gets in Eagle Pass. C.C. Winn High School is just across the road from where we live.

Tonight's Lions Club Meeting

Martin and I have had several interesting discussions about him working in the sugar beet fields of North Dakota and Minnesota when he was a teenager prior to immigrating to the United States.

Laredo, TX

Today we motored 118 miles east to Laredo.
The Grand Republic of the Rio Grand Museum appears to be
the main tourist attraction. It is right at the town square.

This is the plaque on the building.

The Eagle Ford Shale oil field has added to the oil production of Texas via horizontal drilling and fracking.

The Eagle Ford is centered between Eagle Pass and Laredo. There is a lot of truck traffic between here and Laredo.

Today's Ride

Today's ride took me 9 miles east to a rest stop and this beautiful flowering cactus. There are a lot of cacti in the area but most of them are further out in the fields and hard to get a good close up.

At the rest stop I met our neighbor, Maria,  who I did not know before this chance meeting. She lives  two doors down in the same apartment complex. She is here working as a medical lab tech at the hospital. Barb and her need to talk. She was using the rest stop as a place to study for a class she is taking for her masters degree.

When I rode up there was a Mexican there looking
for directions to San Antonio,  which I provided.

Carizzo Springs, TX

Today we motored 44 miles east on Highway 277 to checkout Carizzo Springs, TX. The only advertised attraction is Veterans Memorial Park. They have their pavers with vets names mounted vertically, which is a good idea, as compared to ours in Delano that are on the ground and covered with snow several months of the year.

The best scenery in town was this chic I happened to see by an oil pumper in the park.

The Good and Beautiful Life

One of my first stops when we arrived in Eagle Pass, TX was at the First United Methodist Church after I determined it was the only English speaking church in EP. I met Juliet and Pastor Becky and they invited me to join a book discussion on Wednesday mornings on The Good and Beautiful Life. So that's where I have been each Wednesday morning since March 12.

The book lends itself well to meaningful discussion. I have gained some insights that I haven't taken the time to think about before, which is the purpose of this kind of gathering.

We have also been attending Sunday morning services at the church. Pastor Becky does a good job.

EP Evening Lions Club Meeting

The menu tonight was parrillada (barbecue beef, chicken, and
pork) prepared onsite.

Some of the reports are in Spanish but it is all French to me.

Lupe is past commander of the (defunct) Eagle Pass
Legion Post.

New Bike Saddle

Pretty slow news day here in Eagle Pass so I will share my new bike saddle that I got today on the recommendation of Wes A. This will be a definite improvement for comfort and leverage. Thanks Wes.

Waiting on a replacement tire, Continental Grand Prix 4000 black/yellow from Gear West in Long Lake, MN. My rear tire was completely worn through. Rotated it to the front awaiting the new one.
