Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup

Updated signage along Highway 14 west of Ft. Pierre.
Sunup along the Wildlife Loof, Custer State Park.
It took two hours to get from park entrance to viewing area
so sat in stopped traffic and ate breakfast in motor home. And
took pictures. Traffic was bumper to bumper for about 8 miles.

Riding the Mickelson Trail past Crazy Horse Monument.

On the Mickelson Trail.
Rode 70 miles on Mickelson Trail.
The essence of the roundup is seeing herds of Bison brought into the corrals.

There were two herds brought into the corrals.

There are about 1200 Bison in the Park. I haven't seen this
many Bison in the same place since the last NDSU Bison
v SDSU Jacks football game in the Fargo Dome.

The crowd from the north viewing area.

The crowd on the south viewing area. According to the
Rapid City Journal there were 21,000 people at the Roundup.
I believe it. It was a full house park.

Sixty summers ago another kid and I caught our limit of crappie
from this approximate spot just below Bismark Lake in Custer
State Park and just above Stockade Lake.
